Charlize Theron for US VOGUE September 2009

Today on my way back home from a meeting I decided that the $10 I had in my wallet would be best spent on a fashion magazine....and it just so happens that VOGUE's September issue is out on news stands...so that's just what I got!

This year there's 584 pages of "Stylish Steals & smart Sprluges" with Charlize Theron gracing the cover. "But I know how I feel about facing my own weaknesses, and playing into my weaknesses and finding that within my characters. My weaknesses are way more interesting to me than my strength."

For behind the scenes footage of Chalize Theron's cover shoot, watch Vogue Diaries at vogue.com

End of Summer Alert: UK Brand cools Lady Yvette

(photo: CassandraRenee)

It's that time of season where if it's gonna be hot, it's freakin' HOTT!!!...The perfect time to wear those micro-modal, bamboo, tencel, or Supima cotton blend tees & tanks I suggested and schooled you on back in March. Of course, I had to pick up a few myself because if you don't know by now I'm a huge fan of that relaxed, casual, "i'm-not-tryin'-so-hard", chic, layered look - HOBO CHIC. Rocker chic is cool, too....Edgy street wear, even...or how about my current inspiration Japanese street wear?...

Lady Yvette in Zoe's Tee Brazil V-neck T-shirt (minus the boyfriend jacket) PLUS DesignGlut's World Links necklace.(photo: CassandraRenee)

The simplest items like an over-sized tank, V-neck paper-tissue thin t-shirt, or tunic top layered with a 3/4 length sleeve boyfriend jacket (scrunched at the sleeved to give it that I don't care flare) and a pair of denim short shorts (or even a pair of tattered boyfriend jeans rolled up at the ankles) , finished off with BADD accessories can really pull off those looks mentioned above that I so, dearly love so much at the moment. You can rock platform sandals to metallic flats OR even boots - cowboy to lace-ups....

So, the reason why I am going there is because I discovered an UK clothing BRAND that rocks my world! Raise your hands if you heard of ALL SAINTS? If you have then tell me your thoughts on this brands because I'm a share mine with you...Those of you who haven't this Spitalfield LONDON based clothing company designs men, women, children contemporary clothing. I would strongly advise to explore their website of ALL the DOPE items they carry!!!! I get SOOOOOOOOO excited about stuff like this, I have no words...YOU MUST CHECK IT OUT FOR YOURSELVES!!!!! But as far as, my thoughts on this brand, I think it's ROCKIN'!!!...LOL. Everything is NOW and the earthy color tones of the collection is so basic it would integrate in your wardrobe very easily. Although, it's a UK Brand and you can ONLY find this collection at Bloomingdale's on Broadway in NYC, you can also order online at their store website. Talk about being exclusive...LOVE IT!!

A small example of "pieces" you'd want to invest in (not my favs but only an example) (photo: all Saints website)

From their drum dyed leather shirts to off kilter, patchwork-inspired, cowl-neck, sleeveless chunky knits to vintage boots and accessories! Honestly, it may not be for everybody but that's the beauty of fashion because there is so much for the picking and everyone has specific taste. But, with All Saints, even though the style is focused on this Japanese-inspired construct/deconstruct concept you can ALWAYS style pieces to match YOUR personal style whether you add it to what you have or create a whole ensemble of All Saints ;-)...there's nothing wrong with drawing inspiration either and recreating some of the looks, too!

But, I've always been a big advocate on investing in your major accessories (shoes, boots, bags) and key items like a coat or major layering pieces to add to a look for a season. Get pieces that you know you will rock in seasons to come that truly express who your are...classic pieces that rep YOUR STYLE. That way you can justify why you are spending more on the amount of a DOPE jacket that's made of quality leather, cut/tailored perfect for you, unique and different....IF, you want to take things to the NEXT LEVEL with your personal style you must convince yourself it's a MUST HAVE and you NEED IT in your life!!....and yes, and I'm talking about ALL Saints, too! ;-) I will be sure to show you what I mean with visual examples but first I need you ladies to do some homework first and take a look at what all they have to offer over at ALL SAINTS!!

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK...I AM CURIOUS TO KNOW....

in LOVE
Lady Yvette

P.S. I found this story on All Saints and had to share this....I mean besides being in love with their designs
this is more the reason why I can appreciate the way they doing things at this company. Your thoughts are welcome...

Clothing Boutique + Art Gallery = New Found Inspiration

Grand Prize winner of the "SAKURA" - Fairy in Blooming/Fairy in Falling Cherry Blossoms by Yucachin' (www.yucachin.com)

So I was on my way to fill out some paper work to get paid for a commercial I did last week and I came across this really unique boutique in Williamsburg on N 3rd Street. I've always been into shopping at vintage clothing stores and Williamsburg, Brooklyn harbours some of the best vintage clothing store where you can find some great pieces. There's the well-known, Beacon's Closet and The Buffalo Exchange where you can actually trade in clothing you have want to get rid of and either get cash for it or get credit to shop!(They are now now buying for Fall, BTW) In these times where pinching pennies is the answer, I know these businesses are doing phenomenal. Side Note: Having a clothing swap party with friends is also a great way to save money and add some flavor to the wardrobe - sensibly.

But, this boutique is not your typical vintage store because the merchandise is mostly from Japan!! Japanese street fashion a something that also inspires me...it's a WILD, CREATIVE, INVENTIVE, UNIQUE, AVANTE-GARDE, DARK, COLORFUL, TRENDY, and EXAGGERATED expression of personalized interpretation of style/fashion...So, anyways, not only is this place a Men's & Women's New/Vintage Clothing store but it also has an Japanese art gallery!!! OMG, as I walked deeper into the boutique I was surged with this excitement of discovery, emerging upon this back room filled with Japanese art!! Currently, the "SAKURA Exhibition" is showcased introducing an array of Japanese artist with intricate and whimsy. Truly, a place to retreat to and get inspired. The boutique sells prints of the works for ONLY $35 each which can make a great gift idea and the art is breathtaking and visually simulating. They carry Alexander McQueen accessories, vintage-inspired jewelry, sunglasses, shoes, stationary, and surprisingly livingware - go figure.

Now, I'm absolutely sure you are dying to know which boutique I am referencing so introducing.......................................................................ABOUT GLAMOUR/AG Gallery!!Located at 103 North 3rd Street in Brooklyn between Wythe and Berry with gracious business hours of 12ish to 9ish...

So, the next time I stop by it will be a 'ShoppingFieldTrip' for all of us.....

Princess Goddess of Love Clothing Designer - Sarah Aphrodite

As apart of her process, beautiful dreams and memories are remembered through cut-outs and nostolgic photo imagery of the things that move her, creating inspiration boards offering the evidence of her life...

I would like to introduce to you......SARAH APHRODITE!!

While sourcing a stylist for a shoot I am putting together for myself I discovered this designer that happens to live right in Brooklyn in the same neighborhood as myself...as I scroll through her website I'm having this orgasmic experience because of how simplistically her work speaks directly to me. It whispers to me and says, "SEXY, FEMININE, AUTHENTIC, ECLECTIC, SASSY, URBAN, GYPSY, LATINA, CUBANA, UNIQUE, EXOTIC, and did I mention SEXY!!!

I told her when we sat down for lunch (yes, I had to meet her!), "Girl, if there is any designer in the world that would represent ME...you are it, hunni!!!!" Right away, her current spring/summer 2009 collection spoke me and as I learned more about her I realized I met a like-mind.
Model Lexie Smith is wearing a beaded cardigan (one-of-a-kind) $375 Photographer: Sander Lak

Dressed in a pair of high-waisted, slim fit, stone washed skinnys that she designed(yes, people she designs denim jeans!); a simple white t-shirt representing her Brand on the back and the international city of Athens silk screened on the front, which she also designed; hair tousled half-way up and half-way down in a pony-tail and a Sarah Aphrodite denim tote with handles embellished with gold rings, she met me at Sucre Jazz Lounge Cafe in Bed-Stuy to chitchat over lunch and a smoothie.
Aladdin-inspired silk harem pants (MY FAVORITE) $250

Since 2006, Sarah has been living and working out of her Brooklyn Apartment producing her one-of-a-kind designs. She is originally from the Netherlands HOLLAND and graduated from the ArtEZ Arnhem Academy of Visual Arts in Fashion Design. She just started two semesters ago teaching fashion design at Parsons School of Design. Leopards, elephants, lace, stretch denim, and rap artist Nelly are a few things that she is in LOVE with...she would describe her Brand as "soulful street wear" (love it!!) and although she does not want to tag the label of Eco-friendly or Eco-conscience onto her repertoire she recycles fabrics from old clothes and makes her own simple masterpieces that would make Gary Harvey proud too! She would be quick to tell you though, that she has no problem buying any type of fabric to make clothes with she loves.

Navy polka dot halter dress $130 w/harem pant

She just got back from LA and shot her Spring/Summer 2010 Collection in the desert with fashion photographer Thomas Marin. After talking it up with her I can not WAIT to see the new campaign for this collection....of course, I get a sneak peek of it on Monday as I go and check out her studio but I will be sure to update you on the goods!! You MUST go to her website and check out her pieces...you won't be sorry and you can see her growth actually from the stuff she did back in 2006 to now...the NOW is ME and hopefully you too!! ;-) Showroom Seven/Seventh House PR's, Beyond 7 and Albertine are two Manhattan boutiques you can find her one-of-kind-pieces hanging on a rack.

Get up close on Saturday, August 22nd @ Moomia Lounge (157 Lafayette) for "Collision - A Fashion Show of cultural proportions". Show starts at 5:30pm and is $10 at the door. I'm a be there and so should you! winkwink
