MY INSPIRATION: Vogue Italia June 2010

I'm a little late on this one but once I discovered this I had to share....it's a story shot by Steven Miesel for VOGUE Italia June 2010. For me it's a confirmation I am on the right path...this editorial is BRILLIANT in so many ways. The stylist, Marie-Amelie Sauvé is absolutely a true artist in creating such an illusion and sculpting such looks that make us really believe....Pat McGrath also goes there with the understated, over grit & greased make-up to make us believe completely...and how about the casted models, Eva Herzigova, Tanga Moreau, Yuri Pleskun, Cole Mohr, Will Lewis and Berthold Rothas. KUDOS!!!

About a year ago, I thought of a fashion editorial that had to do with the homeless in NYC. I wanted to make the models look like bums on the street but with high-end fashion.

Authentic. Raw. Cinematic. Artistry. Vision.

BELLO!

My new word is FANTABULOUS, ya'll...LOL

During the course of two months since I last wrote a post on my FANTABULOUS blog..lol..(I know its been too long - shame on me) I came across soooooo much I could have shared with you that I failed to. And I totally see the importance to at least give you all something once a week....right??!?!? My apologies and from this point on I will (..omg, am i really making this commitment??..) update my blog weekly.

Okay. SO what's new? Everything!! Did I mention I started school again to finally obtain my Bachelor's in PR & Marketing with a specialization in Project Management? Oh, and I hold the title of online fashion editor of Signature Hits Magazine, a re-branded young professional lifestyle magazine that has soooooo much potential. Can't wait to see where we take it...First issue is out on newsstands...Where?? Well, from the sounds of it you can get them on newsstands and shops primarily in Times, Herald and Union Squares. Note: we are NOT square...LOL!

Oh, and on Memorial's Day I filmed & starred in my own scene in an Indie short film shot by Saatchi & Saatchi Italy creative director, Stefano Maria Palombi. It's called "Haiku in Brooklyn"...a collection of 32 haiku that make up this short film. He wants to transition into directing films from creative directing ads...so let's see where this goes and I will definitely keep you updated on what film festivals this may be entered in...

Summer is right around the corner and I believe LOVE is in the air...LMAO!!! Well, the love for the fashion that is...hehehehe. Sex in the City 2 is finally out and I still haven't seen it yet however, I plan on making a day of it...The Stories. The Fashion. The Adventure. - just what I live for and you should too...Everyday a story begins; everyday is about looking and feeling good and everyday is a total adventure for me and my friends!!! I am hoping to round up the Ladies and go into the city and preview SATC 2 with brunch to follow at Sweetiepie in the West Village. One of my extra FANTABULOUS friends introduced me to this adult plus kids palace of fantasy, imagination and fluff...so girlie and dainty and I fell in LOVE. Perfect day with the Ladies...right?? I want to even go as far as to dressing up for the occasion and do an impromptu photshoot...WHY NOT??? Well, we shall see how that all pans out...

Oh and did you get the book?? - I did! ;-) I put it on my coffee table...or lack there of...lol

You know lately, I've been inspired by so much I can't even keep up...I get so overwhelmed by looking at everyone's creativity, fashion sense, inspiration and it's all so innovative, stimulating, and evocative...I'm moved & inspired continuously...

ModelReport: NOT as young as you think

So a friend forwarded me an article the other day through Facebook. He brought to my attention that Michael Kors is starting a new model trend where he will no longer hire little girls (under 16 yrs old) to model for him which is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT in my book!! I mean this makes total sense because I am tired of seeing babies trying to selling me luxe fashions...aren't you? Instead, I picture myself modeling and living in those fab frocks! I mean who doesn't?...

With that being said, I'd like to share with you a few models that will be returning to duty as the fashion ambassadors of the 2010-2011 Fall/Winter ad campaigns; serving as the faces of the luxury brands we most desire...And you'd be delighted to know that they are well over the rightful age of puberty. ;-)

Last month, Karl Largerfeld was spotted in Manhattan shooting models Freja Beha Erichsen and Abbey Lee Kershaw, both 23 for his 2010-11 F/W ad campaign for Chanel. It was confirmed by Andre Leon Tally, that Largerfeld was in town shooting for his Fall FENDI campaign, as well. The current face of FENDI, Anja Rubik, 27 reportedly, will return as the poster girl for a second season....(photocapture above courtesy of FENDI) via fashionologie

Karlie Kloss, 17 (over 16 and will turn 18 in August), VOGUE'S favorite model of 2009, who I am sure you haven't seen enough of is going to return again this year as the face of DIOR. Her All-American but transformable look, I guess is still in demand...Steven Miesel will also return in photocapturing the beauty and former editor of i-D Magazine, Edward Enninful is set to style the shoot.

I must say though, she's been ALL over the place since 2008 and where have I been?? She has really has made quite a presence in the fashion industry...VOGUE Italia & America covers, Nina Ricci, Hermes, Alexandar McQueen ad campaigns and catwalks from here to Paris!! WOW!

Now, the classic American designer, Michael Kors just wrapped his 2010 Fall campaign which was shot in L.A. and Carmen Kass, 31 (can you believe her age??...ahhhh, yes she give me hope) is once again the reigning face of this brand along with male model, Noah Mills. And I am assuming that the brand wants to stick with what they know because photographer Mario Testino has photo captured the campaign once again! via Culture Snob

Thank God for Michael Kors taking a stance on this trend of not using models that are not still in grade school. I mean, c'mon...let''s be real, most women that can afford luxury fashions are not 13 - 14 yrs old. Anyways, with the 2010 Fall/Winter collections like VOGUE's online editor Caroline Palmer writes, "Fall 2010 is fashion's coming of age."...Well, I salute to that!

I'm intrigued...in location, subject, & fashion message.

In looking for inspiration and photographers to work with in the future on fashion-related projects (I have a few things up my sleeve) I thought I would share photo captures of creatives in the game building their body of work. My eye for talent is something I pride myself on and think these photographers have something...Hopefully they will be willing to work with me in the near future...

To be continued...

M.A.C.'s Spring Colour Forecast Collection

AHHHHHHHH, YES.....something to look forward to - Spring!! How about these colour collections by M.A.C. Cosmetics??? I hear they are on counters in just about five days (February 11th, 2010) and may have came out sooner!!!;-)

For my make-up lovers and make-up artist this is for you: I strongly suggest (of course, if you haven't already heard about it) to check-out the ever so popular Beauty Blog, Temptalia. There you will be able to find out about make-up/beauty product launches way before they come out, discover make-up application tutorials, and check out product reviews. I am amazed at how this blog has grown and became so popular. It started off simply as an archive of the creator's/editor's daily make-up looks and M.A.C. Cosmetic Collection reviews back in 2006. Now, it has blossomed into a reliable resource for anything on make-up & beauty!! Lady Yvette approves and gives Christine Mielke two thumbs up.

Now, the current campaign is quite simple than what I am used to seeing from M.A.C. but, I will say that I am digging the colours options. With neutral and soft bright color tones as the colour palette seen on the runways of the Spring 2010 Fashion Week this will definitely compliment the trends and looks for spring!! Below is a sneak peak of the M.A.C. Riveting Collection set to launch on February 18th, 2010...

in LOVE,
Lady yvette

Glossy images of leggy, Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall -of-Fame uber-models are as riveting, ravishing – and relevant – as ever. Hot shots of super-babes and rock chicks, edgy but never grungy, the lion’s mane of hair, the spectacular cheek bones, the luscious lashes, and a certain fearlessness when it comes to conquering with colour – Riveting is a rock-steady metal collection that pays homage to the Jerry Halls and Pat Clevelands of the world, their strength and their power! Part of a sexy ’80s fashion moment, these girls are modern versions of the real thing: Rock Goddesses never afraid to strut their stuff and step up to the spotlight. A fashion trend, true, but oh-so-much more is what makes these girls Riveting.

Career Devolopment with Powerhouse for Artists???

YES!!!!

This is a new year for moving further ahead in your endeavors and I encourage everyone to strive for greatness and be the best in whatever it is you do from designing fashion/jewelry to wardrobe styling to art direction - WHATEVER!! One lesson I've learned is that you can't do it all on your own and whether you are an amateur or professional I think it's healthy for one to always get positive and critical feedback on your craft...

With that being said, I just found out that the publishing company, PowerHouseBooks has organized a Portfolio Review and workshops for aspiring and professional photographers with leading experts in the field of art, media and advertising. They have been doing this since 2005 and it's supposedly highly sought-after. I highly recommend this for artists in the field of photography that want or need some direction in their artistic or commercial career. They will only see 100 photographers so I wouldn't wait to register!!!

DO IT!!! DO IT!!! DO IT!!!

Click here to register for the 6th Annual PowerHouse Portfolio Review Sunday, Febuarary 28th, 2010 @ the PowerHouse Arena in DUMBO, Brooklyn. For more info go to 2010 Portfolio Review

For fun, I plugged samples of my photography throughout this post. Yeah, believe it or not, I shoot around too. lol...I kinda started shooting pregnant women (friends of mine) with the idea of pampering them for the day by having their make-up done by Cassandra Renee, wardrobe them and even art direct a shoot around them to create a personalized album for the expecting mother and their families. Sounds like a great idea for a small business, huh??? ;-) So some of the images are of those shoots and a few random shots....

Balenciaga Spring 2010 Ad Campaign

My first thoughts when I laid eyes on this campaign was FUN!! - just like it's gonna be fun when I finally put my VISION board together for 2010. Doesn't it kinda remind you of a collage?? I mean right down to the patterns in the clothing...bold block coloring and dem shoes!!! Ouch!! Absolutely love them all. Now, I am more into the hooded looks and those skinny leather pants. What do you think? ;-)

Testing 1, 2, 3: Alexis Bittar Beauty Shoot

Photo Capture by Ejaz Khan
Styling by Sophia Batson Jewelry by Alexis Bittar
Beauty Artistry by CassandraRenee
Hair by Ewa Berton
Retouching by Sharon Daniels
Muses: Nnenna Agba & Simone Awor

This was a beauty test that my fabulous sister of a Make-Up Artist worked on with a team that was able to pull from Alexis Bittar's 2009 Fall Collection. A Beauty Series featuring ANTM model Nnenna Agba from cycle 6 and former IMG model, Simone Awor.

Although, I would say there really was no clear direction to this shoot, I will say the make-up is fierce, flawless, and fab and the models are gorgeous!! I think if Ejaz would have stuck with where he was going with how he shot the two masks by Alexis Bittar (I am assuming those pieces are for editorial purposes only) this could have been a tight beauty story. I noticed by looking at his website that he is more strong with his fashion editorial shoots and lacks in his beauty (that's just my opinion ) - I absolutely love his work, though!!!

I strongly suggest to check out the teams portfolios and check out Alexis Bittar jewelry...I personal like the Lucite Collection for everyday but the Miss Havisham Collection is edgy & bold for those with more of a twisted style! ;-)

Lady Yvette
